Vickery Wines

Eden Valley Reserve Riesling

From the beautiful 2018 vintage, a small parcel from the Zander ‘Kosi Block’ stood out for its ageing potential and was kept separate from the main Eden Valley blend.

Bright and delicate, complex and balanced. Tight acid and a long finish.

Wine Press and Accolades

96 points - Jane Faulkner - 2022 Halliday Wine Companion – 10/08/2021

It’s really, really hard to put this wine down. Expect to be wooed by the fragrance as much as the palate. A perfect blend of freshness and pulsing acidity, with some complexity of age starting to unfurl: preserved lemons with ginger spice, candied lime jellies, buttered toast and lime marmalade. But not too much. It has some way to go.

94 points - James Suckling – 07/06/2021

This has a fresh lemon-peel and talcum-powder nose with a fresher, sliced-lemon and lemon-juice edge, too. The palate has a vividly long line of lime flavor, set in a sleek and smooth mode with almost glazed texture. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

EVR 704 Z. This is the least advanced of Vickery’s ’16 and ’17 releases. ’16 is the most pure, the most relaxed and the most certain about its future.

95 points - Ken Gargett – 04/03/2020

Eden Valley ‘The Reserve’ 2017 ‘Zander Kosi Block’ EVR 704 Z Two years is not long in Riesling years, but this wine shows the early hints of development. It is a fraction more rounded than the ’19. Citrus, steel and bathroom salts. Finely balanced with razor acidity. Serious length here but the wine maintains intensity right along that length. A really good Riesling and one which has much more to give. Has years ahead of it (both in Riesling and human terms).

95 points - Huon Hooke – 31/01/2020

Light, bright yellow hue with a lemon-pith aroma, light and crisp and intense. Very juicy and lemony again in the mouth, with intense fruit and a long carry. Good fruit concentration, but also delicacy. It would reward some cellaring.

9.7/10 - Max Crus - Grape Expectation – 02/12/2019

Rieslings like this only seem to crop up once every decade, so either I don’t drink enough or they are genuinely rare. Everything you’d want in a Riesling in the exact quantities you’d want them.
